Your meals, turned into a route through the grocery store

Tell Grocery Rat what you're cooking, by name or with a photo. It writes the recipes, builds one shopping list, and walks you through your store aisle by aisle.

A shopping route through a King Soopers store: produce first, then aisles 2, 3 and 4, with each item's side, section and shelf

How it works

  1. Add your meals. Type a dish like "chicken tikka masala" or upload a photo of one, and set the servings.
  2. Check the list. Ingredients shared between meals are combined into one line with the total to buy. Untick anything you already have.
  3. Pick your store. Use your location or a ZIP code to choose a Kroger-family store near you.
  4. Follow the route. Grocery Rat finds a real in-stock product for each item and orders the stops: produce first, the center aisles in number order, then meat, with dairy and frozen last so cold things stay cold. Every item shows its aisle, side, section and shelf.
  5. Cook. The recipes come with step-by-step instructions and built-in timers.

Where the aisle locations come from

Kroger publishes product locations for each of its stores: the aisle number, the section along the aisle, which side, and the shelf. Grocery Rat searches what's in stock at your store right now and picks a sensible product and size for each ingredient, so it won't send you looking for something that's sold out.

Stores don't publish floor plans, so the store diagram assumes a typical layout. The aisle and section numbers are the store's own.

If your store doesn't carry something, like gochujang or fresh bean sprouts, Grocery Rat checks other food stores nearby using OpenStreetMap and tells you which one most likely has it and where to look.

Questions

Which grocery stores does it work with?

Kroger and its sister stores: King Soopers, City Market, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Smith's, Fry's, QFC, Dillons, Harris Teeter, Mariano's and more.

Can I make a grocery list from a photo of a meal?

Yes. Grocery Rat identifies the dish in the photo, writes a recipe for your servings, and adds the ingredients to your list.

Are the prices exact?

They're the store's current listed prices, including sales, added up as an estimate before tax.

Does it work on a phone?

It's built for one. Tick items off as you go and the route highlights your next stop.

Can I save my lists and recipes?

Yes. Create a free account and every list you make is saved with its route, what you've ticked off, and the recipes. You can reopen any trip later, find a dish under Recipes, or email a trip to yourself to read in the store.

Is it free?

Yes, with a daily limit on lists and routes per person, because each one uses paid AI credits.

What's for dinner this week?

Add a few meals and get your list and route in under a minute.
